Norroa™ | Next-Generation Varroa Mite Treatment Using RNAi Technology
Norroa is a next-generation varroa mite treatment developed and tested over more than 10 years of research and field trials. Unlike traditional mite treatments, Norroa™ uses RNA interference (RNAi)—a new Mode of Action (MoA) designed to specifically target varroa mites without relying on harsh acids or conventional chemical treatments.
Norroa™ works by targeting a specific protein required for varroa mite reproduction, stopping the production of mite offspring and helping maintain mite levels when applied according to label instructions.
New Mode of Action (RNAi Technology)
Norroa™ is powered by vadescana™, a novel Mode of Action for beekeeping. Using RNA interference (RNAi), the active ingredient targets a protein unique to varroa mites that is essential for reproduction.
By interrupting this process, Norroa™ is designed to:
Prevent mite population growth
Support resistance management strategies
Complement Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs
This unique approach makes Norroa™ fundamentally different from formic acid, oxalic acid, thymol, hop acids, or amitraz-based treatments.
Why Beekeepers Choose Norroa™
New Mode of Action (RNAi) – supports resistance management
Targets mite reproduction rather than relying on contact toxicity
No harsh acids
Designed to be specific to varroa mites
Long-lasting control observed in multi-year field trials
Easy pouch application – no mixing or measuring
Product Details
RNAi-based varroa mite treatment
Sugar-syrup pouch delivery system
Designed for use when mite levels are low
Can be applied during a wide range of working temperatures
Follow manufacturer instructions exactly
Application Information
Norroa™ is supplied in pre-measured pouches containing the active ingredient dissolved in sugar syrup.
Application rate:
Apply 2 pouches per brood box
Two deep brood boxes require 4 pouches
Packaging options:
2-dose pack – treats 1 brood box
12-dose pack – treats 6 single brood boxes or 3 double-deep hives
Placement:
Place pouches on top of frames or on the bottom board
Leave approximately ½ inch of space for bees to access the pouch
Pro tip: When treating double brood boxes, place pouches between boxes using a feeder shim
Timing & Use Notes
Norroa™ is designed to maintain mite levels at the time of application. For best results, apply when:
Mite levels are low
Honey supers are not on the hive
It is safe to open the hive
Bee & Colony Safety
In multiple years of laboratory and field trials:
No negative impacts on larvae were observed
No negative impacts on adult bees were observed
No negative impacts on queens were observed
Norroa™ is designed to be specific to varroa mites, supporting a healthy hive environment and non-target organisms when used as directed.
Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
With its novel Mode of Action, Norroa™ is well suited for use in rotation with other mite treatments as part of a long-term IPM strategy. This helps reduce reliance on any single active ingredient and supports sustainable mite management.
